'> I am sorry I didn't report back and thank all of you who gave me advice on my iPaq Messaging unable to send over the WLAN. I found the problem. I somehow had a port filter added to my router for port 25 which the iPaq must be using for its SMTP interface. I don't know how in the heck the port filter got there, but sure enough, when I removed it, everything worked as before.
I have since read that ISP's can sometimes put a block on port 25. I'm guessing that is how it got there.
I understand that port 25 has some flaws and helps hackers (the bad kind) distribute trojahn horses, etc. But, I have yet to find a way to set the port on the Ipaq's SMTP server settings.
Thanks again for everyone's help. I was really tearing my hair out!
Regards, frank

I have the same problem exactly and mine once worked. It seems that about two weeks ago or so something I did or my ISP did has stopped it from working. I found a possible fix on the web (http://www.smtp.com/client_setup-ipaq_registry_modification.htm) which involved adding a parameter to the Registry. I tried it but it did not help.
Unfortunately there isn't an easy way to find out what it is trying to do. I have asked my ISP to help but I don't have much hope. I must turn to HP and Microsoft.
Regards, Frank

QUOTE I have an iPaq with a wireless card that allows me to connect with a wireless router and get on the internet. That all works great, but I am unable to send email. If I log on to my servers site and check email I can do all the handling I want except that I am unable to send an email. If I go online with my desktop and access the email page of my server I am able to create an email and send it. I can create an email an email with the PDA, but am unable to send it.
I have also tried creating an email with the client program on my PDA, but am unable to send from there either.
I am open to suggestions from anyone on what my problem might be or where to go to get help.
Any suggestions. sounds like the smtp protocol uses a non standard port. easy to fix if this is the case and it's POP acct... is it?

Frank,
Taking it one step at a time, I'd get back to your ISP and check the parameters for your incoming and outgoing server from your PocketPC.
Then check you can connect to an internet site from your PocketPC, ie google.com as a good example.
Then check you can receive email, and finally check you can send email!
Who is your ISP, do they have a parameters page you can look at to check the config of the servers?
regards,
Greg

Hi and thanks Greg,
I appreciate your taking time to give me your inputs.
I have both a desktop (using Outlook) and laptop (using Outlook express) working fine with the same account settings (as far as I can make them the same).
I have sent in support e-mails to my ISP, Microsoft and HP with no satisfaction as yet.
All the other net related functions I use on the iPaq work just fine. That includes receive mail, web browsing and MSN Messenger.
My ISP is SBC/Yahoo and they do have a pretty good settings page. It says what I've been using all along.
One thing I did recently on both my laptop and my desktop was change the outgoing port from 25 to port 587. This was because I had been getting trojan horse viruses getting in via port 25 and all that I have read says I shouldn't use that port any longer.
On the iPAQ, I can't find a way to set the port. I also can't find a way to know what port was selected. I haven't searched in the iPAQ registry, yet. Perhaps it is there.
I am almost at the point where I might do a hard reset of the iPAQ, thinking I picked up a virus or something.
Thanks again for your interest in my problem. It has been very frustrating.
Regards

I'm guessing your iPAQ email isn't set up 100% correctly.
What do you have in the relevant fields for IMAP/POP server and server to use for sending email?

Greg
