Title: Wireless lan connectivity issues Post by: compucart on February 05, 2007, 12:13:20 PM Hi,
I have a HTC TYtyn. I get a connect icon when i connect to a wireless lan hotspot, but cannot access the net. I changed my dns and ip setings on the network adapter (IEEE 802.11b/g compatible wi-fi adapter) BUT to no avail. Which network adapter must i config or is there any forum or discussion on how to resolve windows mobile 5 wireless conectivity issues? the error i get mostly is cannot find name on Internet Explorer even after i put in the right dns numbers. Please help. thanks. Title: Re: Wireless lan connectivity issues Post by: gregh on February 06, 2007, 06:06:48 AM if your at a hotspot, I would leave the settings to
Use server-assigned IP address from start, settings, connections, then click network cards, then the wifi card. regards, Greg Title: Re: Wireless lan connectivity issues Post by: compucart on February 06, 2007, 05:53:28 PM Hey Gregh Thanx for the reply. Im having more trouble connecting my pda to my home wifi router. I enabled the wifi router on dhcp. but the htc still wont connect until i assign the network card an ip address. but then it wont find a webpage. it gives an 'check name' and 'website not available' error. so i enterd my isp broadbands dns settings onto the wifi network adapter on the pda and it still gives me the same error. There are like 8 network adapters listed on the htc pda. am i using the wrong one? any more tips? thanks!

Can you list what it says you have for each of the 8 adapters, and we can take it step by step! Are any builty in wifi adapters or are you adding in SD cards etc? regards, greg Title: Re: Wireless lan connectivity issues Post by: compucart on February 16, 2007, 08:51:33 AM hi, thanks for the reply.
Here are my 8 adapters: Btw none of them are add on cards. they are all built in. Remote-NDIS Host Virtual Ethernet Intermediate Mini Port L2TP NDISWAN Miniport AsyncMac NDISWAN Miniport PPTP Ndiswan Miniport NE2000 Compatible Ethernet Driver Microsoft null Ethernet Miniport Driver IEEE 802.11b/g compatible Wi-Fi adapter do you think the problem could be my dsl routher is not assigning IP addreses. Even though its DHCP mode??? Thanks again Title: Re: Wireless lan connectivity issues Post by: gregh on February 16, 2007, 11:31:35 PM it would be the easiest solution if your home router would assign an IP address.
Do you know what kind of security you are running on your home router? As a test try turning off all security and see if it works then. Remember to turn security back on after you have done your tests though! regards, greg Title: Re: Wireless lan connectivity issues Post by: compucart on February 17, 2007, 04:09:57 AM Thanks for your help. My router is on DHCP (automatic assigning of ip addresses). I checked the security. I accessed my router. It shows: wpa-psk (authentication type) and TKIP (encryption). Is this wat you are refering to in terms of security?
thanks Title: Re: Wireless lan connectivity issues Post by: gregh on February 17, 2007, 05:49:45 AM right, so you need to make sure your iPAQ setup matches the security on your router.
who set up the security on the router? regards, Greg Title: Re: Wireless lan connectivity issues Post by: compucart on February 17, 2007, 06:54:53 AM Thanks for your help. But it is already matching with my HTC tytyn and my router. I set up the security. Everything matches.
what else could be wrong? thanks Title: Re: Wireless lan connectivity issues Post by: gregh on February 18, 2007, 12:09:00 AM I'd guess something doesn't quite match up on the security front. In order to elminate that, disable all wireless security on both the router and the HTC device, and then try again.
Just one other thought, what wireless protocols does your router support? regards, Greg Title: Re: Wireless lan connectivity issues Post by: compucart on February 19, 2007, 11:49:37 AM Where do i disable the security settings on the pocket pc? or on the router.
thanks Title: Re: Wireless lan connectivity issues Post by: gregh on February 19, 2007, 12:33:28 PM disable it on both, so that they both match up....
Title: Re: Wireless lan connectivity issues Post by: compucart on February 20, 2007, 05:15:45 AM Thanks,
I disabled both and still it fails to connect. I think the problem lies that the router fails to assing an ip. So when I add an IP on my pocket pc network adapter, it coneccts but still no internet access. Even when I add the dns settings, it fails to pick up any website (eroor: check name server). anything else i can do? thanks. Title: Re: Wireless lan connectivity issues Post by: gregh on February 20, 2007, 01:23:08 PM So, on my router I can see what devices are trying to connect, and which are connected.
I am guessing that if it is not getting an IP address then something is not fully configured. What router are you using? cheers, Greg |
