Having now owned this device for a week and a half, I've written up my 614c review. CLICK HERE. It's not the smallest GPS enabled device out there, but when you look at the fact it has 3G wireless broadband connectivity for voice and data, it's a winner in my books.

Had my 614c for a week. Still getting used to it. Very bright screen. Just about trouser pocket size.

Transferred my Tom Tom maps onto the SD card and they work fine.
Main gripe is the occasional loss of connectivity. Put my business Vodafone SIM card in to start with and connectivity was OK. When I swapped to my personal O2 SIM card I had to reset the device a couple of times before connectivity was established. Even then it has sometimes lost the signal.
Other concern is the short battery life. Have to get used to charging it daily.

Taking a bit of getting used to, but overall I like it. A very impressive piece of kit.

cheers Jed, I've never noticed a loss of connectivity on Vodafone, what kind of symptoms do you see?

Keeping bluetooth, wifi off etc helps with the battery life Smiley

Re battery life: Yep I keep bluetooth, wifi off to minimise battery usage.

Re connectivity: Using with Vodafone is no problem. Phone connects and stays connected. If I then switch to my O2 SIM the icon shows the 'searching for network', but it never finds it. A couple of soft resets usually does the trick, but obviously it is a pain.  On Saturday night I was in a restaurant and put my phone on the table as I was expecting a call. I noticed then that there was no network signal, and I did not know how long it had been like that. It had been OK in the afternoon. My wife had her mobile with her (also 02) and she had a strong signal on her mobile.  I did read in another review (www.tracyandmatt.co.uk). Their comment on the connectivity is included below.

From tracy and matt blog;

The other issue I had was with the network connections; I think that the problem is that there are so many ways to connect, via 3G, GRPS, EDGE and WiFi that sometimes the phone struggles to decide which is the best method. You can see the connection flicking between, 3G and GPRS or Edge. On my unit on 3G it drops the phone signal, and then when it loses the 3G it has to connect back to the network again and it will only do this via a soft reset. When browsing the web with the 3G symbol on, the phone would not work until I had logged off and reset the phone. Following day the same thing, connected to 3G and this cut off the phone connection altogether, then 3G signal dropped and there was still no phone, drove for 2 hours without realising that the phone was off. I would be interested if anyone else has encountered this problem, and what the fix is.

yeh I read that as well. I've not seen anything like that on Vodafone, and I've done a fair amount of surfing, I wonder if it's an O2 issue???

I assume under phone/menu/options/network that you have Network selection as Automatic?

You can also set preferred networks up through there as well, worth trying??

Network selection already set to automatic. I have also tried the set preferred networks, but problem persists. Will keep trying otherwise it is going to become a work phone only.

Hi Greg,

Thanks for an excellent review.  At the time of reading it, I was patiently awaiting the delivery of my 614c and your review only made me more impatient.  Happy to say, that I have since received my device and am REALLY stoked.  It is everything (and more) than I expected.

I was a bit concerned to read your comments about the Mobile Data Connection not being available, but have since found out how to establish the connection with a laptop and use that to browse the web, pick up mail, etc.

This was posted on the HP Business Forums website on 22March: http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?admit=109447626+1206953517935+28353475&threadId=1215340.
